Ingredients

Units Scale
  • Ground beef: 1 lb
  • Potatoes: 5 medium, thinly sliced
  • Cheddar cheese: 2 cups, shredded
  • Milk: 2 cups
  • Flour: 2 tablespoons
  • Butter: 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion: 1 small, diced
  • Salt: To taste
  • Pepper: To taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the diced onion and minced garlic until browned. Season with salt and pepper. Drain any excess grease and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Cheese Sauce:
    • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth and thickened. Stir in half of the shredded cheddar cheese and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Assemble the Casserole:
    • Layer half the potato slices evenly in the prepared baking dish. Top with half the cooked ground beef, followed by half the cheese sauce. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, ground beef, and cheese sauce.
  5. Add the Cheese Topping:
    • Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  6. Bake:
    • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  7. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the casserole to cool for 5–10 minutes before serving.
